Acquiring bank – financial institution authorized by Visa and Mastercard to accept bankcards as a form of payment for products and services and contracted by the merchant to collect the payments for these products and services and to deposit them in the its merchant account.

Address – information regarding the billing or the shipping address provided by the customer at the transaction moment.

Address verification service – instrument used upon transaction authorization, for detecting fraud. The procedure consists in comparing the billing address information provided at the transaction moment against the address in the database of the cardholder’s financial institution. The procedure result consists in a code and, based on this code, the transaction can be accepted or declined.

Authorization – the verification of the balance available on the cardholder’s account to see if it covers the amount required for the specific good or service purchased. Typically, the authorization will result in the locking and reserving of the specific amount against the cardholder’s available funds. To complete the transaction, the authorization process must be followed by a settlement or debit.

Authorization code – the code returned following a transaction request, for each authorized transaction.

Blind credit – a credit not associated with an original transaction (charge).

Card issuing bank – financial institution authorized by Visa and Mastercard to issue bankcard used for online and offline transaction between the cardholder and the merchant.

Card number: the card number printed or embossed on the front of the card which is used in transactions. For security reasons, the card number will not be stored or displayed in the PlatiOnline system.

Card type – indicates the card type used for a transaction (V-Visa, M-Mastercard, D – Discover).

Chargeback – action taken by the cardholder to get a forced credit from the merchant, through the card issuing bank, due to merchant’s failure to observe the shipping terms or the advertised quality of the product/ service. Cardholders are advised to settle amicably with the merchant before resorting to a chargeback.

City – city, part of the billing or shipping address, provided at the moment of the transaction.

Company – the company name on the billing or shiping address, provided at the transaction moment.

Country – the country in the billing or shipping address, provided at the moment of the transaction.

Credit (1) – the action taken to refund the charged amount back on the cardholder’s account, through a debit agains the merchant’s account. The credit can be either full or partial.

Credit (2) – the result of the credit action, i.e. the amount debited from the merchant account and transferred to the cardholder’s account. The credit can be paired or blind.

Currency – the currency for each transaction (eg, RON, USD, EUR) Name: piece of information from the billing and shipping address provided by the cardholder at the transaction moment.

Customer name – customer name as it appears on the billing or shipping address, provided at the moment of the transaction.

CVV2/ CVC 2 code – consists of the last 3 on the back of the card. It is a security measure to prevent fraudulent transactions. As in the AVS procedure, for each submitted transaction, the code entered by the customer on the payment pge is compared against the one in the issuing bank database.

Debited – see “settled”.

Decline –: transactions declined by the card issuing bank or, due to a processing error they result into declined status. Sometimes the status is accompanied by a decline message which explains the reasons for which a transaction is rejected.

E-mail address – the billing address may contain this piece of information. Its format must comprise the “@” symbol.

Expiration date – printed on the card, it determines the validity period of the card . Once expired, the card is considered invalid and the transaction made through it are declined.

Fax number – piece of information from the billing address, which enables a better communication between the customer and all the other parties involved in the transaction.

Gateway – consists of an interface integrated with a financial insitution or processor which allows bankcard transaction processing under specific security conditions.

Settle (debit) – action taken following an authorization, to debit the purchase amount from the cardholder’s account.

Invoice number – additional piece of information to identify a transaction in the system which can have an alphanumeric format.

Paired credit – a credit associated with an original transaction (charge). The credit amount cannot exceed the original transaction amount.

Payment amount – means the amount submitted for authorization, in a certain currency (RON, USD, EUR).

Postal code (zipcode) – alphanumeric code which can be present in the billing and shipping address for an improved efficiency of the address location process.

Product description – consists of information on the type of product/ service purchased or attempted to be purchased by a customer through a bankcard transaction.

Settled – transaction status which indicates the corresponding debit on the cardholder’s account has already taken placed.

Telephone number – piece of information from the billing address, which enables a better communication between the customer and all the other parties involved in the transaction.

Time and date of settlement – indicates the exact moment the transaction was settled.
